Maidstone is the county town of Kent in the heart of the garden of England in the South East. It is well known for its prison where that last person in England to be publicly hanged in 1868. A more romantic prison is the one at the Dungeons. This is a fourteenth century jail that was used during the local revolt and housed the mad priest of Kent. This can be found near the Archbishop's Palace on the site of the original Maidstone Manor and was used from the thirteenth century as the home of the archbishop. There are many interesting buildings in the historic part of Maidstone that include the college of Priests and the Parish church of All Saints.
