Due to its position on the south east coast of England and its proximity to continental Europe, Dover is one of the busiest ports in England. It is historically famous for its World War II connections and its famous white cliffs. These provide fabulous walks and spectacular views over the channel but can only best be appreciated from the sea. High on the cliffs stands Dover Castle, with origins going back to the Romans although it became a castle proper during the time of Henry II. The castle is most known for its tunnels dug during the Napoleonic Wars but extended during the Second World War and known as 'Hellfire Corner'. It was a military headquarters and hospital and visits to the tunnels are possible.
